Gum Disease Can Often Lead to losing teeth early

Early Gum disease (Gingivitis) is caused when bacteria in your build up on your teeth and along your gum line which then hardens to become tartar / calculus.

While gum disease may often be painless, early signs include irritated, red or swollen gums accompanied by occasional bleeding; particularly when brushing or flossing.

+ - If left untreated

If left untreated gum disease can often lead to Periodontitis – a more advanced stage of Gingivitis. While gingivitis only affects the top layer of your gums, Periodontitis occurs when bacteria gets under the gum.

This can lead to the gum and jawbone peeling away from the tooth leading to infections and eventually teeth being lost.

+ - Solution

The best way to prevent gum disease is practising good oral hygiene such as regular brushing and flossing and reducing the amount of sugary foods and drinks you consume.

Our Preventative care team will show you ways to prevent this from happening. In some cases a deep clean may be required to remove plaque and hardened calculus / tartar to prevent further damage.
